Delicious

Thanks to social bookmarking sites, it is now easier to search, share, and save websites and webpages. Due to the growing use of the internet for information, social bookmarking sites have become very helpful in gaining access to the wanted and needed information. Social bookmarking sites make it more convenient and efficient for people to get the information they want and need by offering them search engines to find the information and allowing them to share and save the information for easier access to it. A very useful social bookmarking site for this blog is Delicious.

Compared to other social bookmarking sites I have searched on, Delicious had the most to offer on the topic of societal pressures and their effects on people’s thoughts and behaviors. When I typed society’s pressures, societal pressures, and social pressures into the search engine, Delicious listed the most links to websites and webpages related to the topic, with a lot of links relevant to the topic. Other social bookmarking sites offered fewer links, and most of the links they did offer did not have much, or anything, to do with the topic at all. Most of the other social bookmarking sites offered websites and webpages that contained news-related topics such as the pressure on our country to save the environment, the pressure on our nation to improve our economy, and the pressure on our society to prevent social injustice.

Delicious makes it more convenient for you to find what you are searching for by highlighting your keyword for you. When you type your keyword into the search engine and it gives you a list of links that contain your keyword in the title, it also highlights your keyword for you so you can spot it faster and easier. This is helpful because you can just simply look for your highlighted keyword instead of reading the entire title to find your keyword. This is particularly useful for this blog since the keywords tend to contain two words, such as society’s pressures, societal pressures, and social pressures. With the keywords highlighted, it makes it easier to figure out whether or not the link is relevant to the topic by showing whether the titles contain one or both words and how the two words are used in the title (an example of an irrelevant link is Yahoo! responds to pressure from social networking sites, because it has nothing to do with social pressures).

Delicious also offers a lot of other topics that are similar to this topic as well. When you type your keyword into the search engine, along with a list of links that contain your keyword, it also displays other tags to the link as well as who bookmarked the link. With this, you can click on the tags or the bookmarker to search for similar topics or to broaden your current topic. This is useful to this blog because the topic can be classified into many different categories such as psychology and sociology. Another reason why this is helpful is because you can search for topics you are interested in through bookmarkers who are similar to you.
